About the Maker

This independent design studio is based in Peru, working at the intersection of contemporary design, cultural heritage, and artisan production. The studio develops objects, furniture, and decorative works in collaboration with artisan communities across the Andes, with a strong focus on preserving traditional craft practices while exploring modern design applications.

Led by a designer and an industrial designer, the studio brings together indigenous craft knowledge, material experimentation, and contemporary design thinking to create objects that connect local heritage with global design contexts.

At SOWA Collective, we include this studio for its ongoing commitment to artisan collaboration and their work in elevating traditional Andean craft through contemporary design systems.

Craft & Process

The studio works closely with artisan communities in Peru, particularly in regions where traditional craft practices such as weaving and stone carving remain active. Their production model is based on direct collaboration, with artisans contributing skilled handwork grounded in generational knowledge.

Materials such as semi-precious stones, natural fibres, and wood are often used within their collections, shaped through both traditional and contemporary techniques.

The studio places emphasis on process transparency and craft preservation, ensuring that handmade techniques remain central to production rather than replaced by industrial methods.

Design Approach

The studio’s work is defined by a dialogue between heritage and innovation. Traditional Andean craft techniques are reinterpreted through contemporary design frameworks, resulting in objects that bridge cultural storytelling and modern functionality.

Their practice often explores material experimentation and interdisciplinary methods while maintaining a strong connection to indigenous craft knowledge and symbolism.
