Handmade Ceramic Vases

Handmade ceramic vases from small studios, shaped and fired one at a time. Our ceramicists in Guadalajara throw the Chubby vase from local clay blends, so the color comes from the clay and the kiln rather than a painted glaze. Another small studio reworks old silhouettes into sculptural pieces: the Harappan Belly Vase, the tall Big Mezo and the flat-backed Half Polo.

These are vases that work with a single branch, a handful of dried stems, or nothing at all. Group two or three of different heights on a console, or let one tall form anchor a shelf. Because every piece is made by hand, expect small differences in tone and texture; no two are identical. Not sure where to start? Read our guide to choosing a sculptural vase and caring for handmade ceramics, or browse all handmade decor.

How to choose a handmade ceramic vase: match the height to the spot (under about 12 inches on a dining table so people can see each other, taller on a console or floor), pick a narrow opening for single stems and dried flowers and a wider one for loose bunches. Our guide what size vase do I need explains height, opening and shape, and how to style a vase without flowers shows how to use one empty.
